	*A "STAR" IS BORN* "Late in life but its never too late" Rose experienced a humble beginning working more than thirty-seven years as a domestic housekeeper did. Romelia is affectionately known as Rose. This nickname evolved when her employer’s children had trouble pronouncing Romelia they instead decided to call her Sweet Rose O’Grady and the name Rose stuck with ever since 1952. During that time she was experiencing birthing pains to her owner Home Care business. She was forming a rock solid foundation and reputation that would carve out her own little niche in the housekeeping market. Ironically most of her career as a housekeeper was spent caring for the homes of the wealthy. Now she is blessed with some of the most prominent people in Atlanta as her clients. No one even her family members thought it was possible for a 51 year old black woman could successfully launch a business….She proved everyone wrong now managing this business for over 17 years. She attributes her good fortune to a faithful prayer life and hard work.
Rose is no stranger to hard work her days began at five a.m., when she had to wake her children to get them ready for school so she could travel 25 miles to work. Rose worked faithfully coming to work in the most dangerous snow and icy conditions. Her daily routine entailed preparing breakfast and the children for school. She would also transport the children and managed the carpool of kids to school. Afterwards, she accomplished varied tasks such as cleaning, shopping, and preparing the family meals. Late in the evening she faced repeating the same chores at her own home. This regiment made for extra long days however; early to rise and late to bed has helped her maintain an excellent work ethic. Her boss employed a professional chef and this is where she learned the art of fine cooking. Rose learned social graces from the lady of the house. This training is proving to be valuable in her business. Even though over the years her employers gave her food, clothes and transportation she never obtained the income needed to be able to provide the best for her family as a single mother. She was fortunate to raise three ambitious and diligent children who possess great values and morals. Her children have in turn instilled these great characteristics in their own children.
	*TESTS AND TRIALS* The making of a successful business Throughout the years she stressed taking her time and always doing her best. In her mind she treated each house as if it were her own. They are a value-added organization, going beyond the mere requests of the client to completing duties not yet thought of by the customer. She really believes in going the extra mile. This is what provides the superior image in the eyes of the consumer. Her goal was to provide quality that no other company could match. The most challenging aspect of her business is convincing her clients that housekeeping is an art. Clean is a relative term and many times her customers compare her superior work to that of a past experience with a maid service. Many customers enjoy the benefits of the many extras that Rose’s home care provides but ironically they do not want to pay for these services. (It takes more energy to cut corners than it does to do the job right the first time.
Jackson’s reputation proceeded her…creating an advertising phenomenon, customers seeking out her services. Word of mouth has been the sole means of gaining new business. Most clients have been customers for over a decade with most of her customers remaining with her since the business started. Rose has enjoyed the privilege of serving in the homes of some of the most influential people in Atlanta. To her credit she has been privileged to have as key clients, members of President Carter’s cabinet; United States Attorney Generals and Ambassadors from many nations, and many top business executives. However, her greatest impact is when she has the opportunity to serve working families. They are so appreciative for the care and love she adds to their homes. The key to her success is being involved with her staff, monitoring the work and carefully training her employees. “How can you expect them to have the heart that you have for the business as the owner if you don’t instill that philosophy inside of them?” She guarantees the satisfaction of the services she provides.
	THE VISION "It was made plain, through a prophet of God" Today, more than ever customers desire to be able to trust the businesses they support. That is why the integrity of her workers is vital to her continued success. Whether she is caring for a million-dollar estate or a starter home, the homeowners want to be shielded from dishonest deeds. She continually has driven to fulfill her vision of “Bringing Dignity Back Into Housekeeping.” At the onset of her career she was faced with racism and segregation, however, those factors did not permeate her spirit. She does her best for all, the wealthy and less fortunate clients like the elderly who could not even afford to pay, all receive equal treatment.
“There is no real magic to raising children, just love, protect and guide them with the word of God.” Rose is the natural mother of three and has ten grandchildren, but she is affectionately regarded as mother to hundreds of others that she has met over the years. She possesses a divine gift to nurture and care for those in need. Her main belief is that she is blessed to be a blessing to others. Rose firmly believes in the biblical philosophy that I am my brothers’ keeper. Throughout her life she has dedicated her spare time to volunteerism. Serving for over fifteen years working with many charitable agencies such as The Nicholas and Ronald McDonald House, where she would tirelessly prepare meals for the homeless and needy families. Her latest project is a video teaching series dealing with caring for the home. Most women are concerned about the cleanliness of their homes, in many cases the missing link is the wisdom and time to carry out the necessary tasks. Many families have two persons working to help ends meet and the household is left in limbo. This video presentation will uncover many mysteries about caring for the home.
